Going Big in Gramercy

Going Big in Gramercy

I just returned from a last-minute trip to New York—food mecca and gourmand paradise. I’m still feeling full and a little “tired,” but man, what a weekend!

One of my favorite spots in New York? The breathtakingly beautiful (and historic) Gramercy Park Hotel. So on Saturday evening, my dining companion and I stopped at the hotel’s Rose Bar for some pre-dinner libations. With its dark wood, luscious velvet banquettes, and sky-high ceilings, the Rose Bar embodies “chic.” Ever the inconspicuous tourist, I squealed with delight and snapped photos of the beautiful décor and fancy drinks. Always playing it cool.

I ordered a Lavender and Cucumber Fizz—ginger liqueur, lavender syrup, and muddled cucumbers shaken with lemon juice and gin. Tart and aromatic, this play on a classic gin fizz was the perfect drink to kick off an August evening. Now, a bargain happy hour this is not. But the movie-star ambience and the delicious cocktails are worth the splurge.
